Narrative Assessment - Writing - 17 March 2016

Learner:  Anisha              Learning Coach:   Megan Croll               Date:   17 March 2016
Learning Area:    Writing
Learning Observed
The Learners had been asked to write about something that they like to do.  We talked about how we can write about something that we have already done (writing in the past tense) and I modelled how I would write about going to the beach.   During this modelling, I thought out aloud how I was sounding out the first (initial) and last sounds in some of the more difficult words.

Anisha then went off by herself to draw her plan and write her own story.
Evidence of learning

Anisha was able to use past tense most of the time to share an idea and include extra detail.   She thought about the initial letter sounds when trying to write unfamiliar words, e.g. ‘raen’ (rain) and ‘playd’ (played).
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Anisha collaborated with others and shared her ideas during my writing modelling session.   She connected to her own experiences and used this to help form her ideas for writing.

Anisha was able to work by herself to sound out the main letter sounds she could hear in the  word ‘played’ (Managing Self).  She is forming most of her letters correctly and listens to the sounds they make when recording them (Using language, symbols and text).  She was able to Think of her own idea and write about it.
Next Learning Steps
  • Correct reversal of the letter ‘b’
  • Independently write about two ideas in one sentence
  • Use another word, instead of ‘I’, to start a sentence
